A downloadable game

Breath Checkers is a 2-player cooperative drawing and breathing game.

Take turns drawing in gridcells while always taking inspiration from what the other player just drew, and breathing slow enough to have the time to draw what you want. Both players win if you finish your last cells at the same time.

This game was made by Rémy Devaux and Gillian Smith, at Schloss Dagstuhl, for the seminar 25292.

It was made using the Dagnamics Description Language which we had just created during that day with a few other people. This language lets us chart desired player emotions while playing the game. You use it by defining curves and envelopes for emotions on different time scales: micro (on player inputs, or on taking in information), meso (short sequences of events), and macro. (over the whole game)

To test this new language, we used it on a completely hypothetical game, and then made the game that would match what we had decided: this game! You can find a photo of our desired player emotion curves in the pictures on this page.
